Whispers of the wind ch. 26

It was a sunny tuesday afternoon.

Bird was at library doing a research for school.

She spent her day at the library,

& in the evening, she went for a swim in a pool close by. She still liked to swim whenever she could and

usually in the evenings, there was no one else and that's why she enjoyed her time alone.

After all, Bird didn't feel comfortable others seeing her scars from the past, as she

barely felt comfortable with them herself.

But this time,

Bird's evening was disturbed by someone just as she was going inside to change.

"You don't have to leave just because of me.." Bird heard someone say.

She saw an unfamiliar person standing behind her.

"We have met before right?" the guy asked even though Bird had no idea.

"Huh? I don't think so.."

Bird answered

& she continued walking

"Nasty scar" he continued and made Bird stop again.

"Must've been quite a fight.." he scoffed as he continued

"Were you attacked by a monster?"

He reminded her of her painful past again, though she had never really forgotten it. She hated how that stranger made her feel,

but she still walked away without saying a word to him. It would've been pointless anyway.

"Maybe you'll tell me when you get out.."

"You think?"

he heard a familiar voice and as

he turned around he saw

"Dorian,, what brings you here?" he asked then

"I was jogging when I heard your nonsense, Myke.."

"Nonsense? hahaha, that's right.. Now I know, it's your sister that is hanging out with that blonde isn't it?"

Myke scoffed.

M="What are you? Her little guardian?"

"Hmm, let's see...None of your business I guess.."

Dorian answered then.

D="And if you still have a thing for my sister, I can send a word even though I think you'd

be rejected again.:"

"What the hell.." Myke grunted as Dorian

brought up the past again,

it just so happened

that he had witnessed that years ago

& Dorian knew that was something to get Myke to shut up as that guy was not used to getting rejected.

Bird was looking at herself from the mirror after changing her clothes.

She had waited for over 15 minutes now, afraid to go out because she thought she would

have to see that guy again and she really didn't want to.

Of course, she knew that she couldn't stay inside forever either..

But...

By her surprise, as she went outside, she only saw

"D-orian??" who was waiting for her.

"You.."

"really didn't have to do this.." Bird said when Dorian had walked her home.

D="It's fine.."

B="You think I can't walk home alone at this time?"

D="I'm sure you can, I just thought it may feel nicer if I walk with you..

My home's not that far anyway.."

Bird scoffed "It's over half an hour from here, what are you saying...?"

"Well it's not that long and also it's good exercise.." Dorian smiled

"Well, as you like.."

Bird said turning her face away,

when Dorian suddenly leaned down reaching Bird's shoes when one of the laces had opened

and Bird was startled by his actions.

"You shouldn't walk around with your shoelaces open, you might fall.."

Dorian said and smiled again afterwards,

and Bird didn't understand him or

the way it made her feel as tears fall down on her cheek

"Why are you doing this? I don't understand..." she asked silently as Dorian's expression also

changed as he saw Bird's reaction.

D="Why?.."

he walked closer towards Bird touching her cheek.

"You mean... he continued

as Bird felt her cheeks turn red and her heart skipped a beat.

D="Your shoelaces or...Why do I do this...?"

D="Why I always want to walk you home?"

D="Or why I like to spend time with you,

talk with you, to know that you're okay.."

Dorian continued as Bird couldn't really move or stop looking at Dorian, who gently touched her chin,

leaning more towards her

"Or why is it that I never want to see you sad, and I

just want to make your sadness disappear.."

he continued while he kept moving closer and closer

D="You really do not know why I want to be close to you like this?"

"Or you just pretend to not to know?..I'm not sure anymore."

he said softly and Bird's heart kept beating in wildly.

Again, that moment reminded her of the past, of Terabithia.. But it wasn't Tera, it was Dorian who made her feel that way now, she didn't know why & she didn't know what do when

he suddenly pulled away..

D="Sorry, I got a bit carried away, but I think you do

know why I am like this with you.."

B="Huhh?"

"Because I like you, Bird." Dorian smiled

"I've always liked you, I guess it's pretty obvious

so I'm just honest about it." He continued

D="Somehow, I feel like you're the only one who doesn't know that or you just act that way.."

Bird just stared at him without words because

she didn't know what to say..

She did not know. & She didn't understand that...

Why did he like her?

Later in the night, while she was laying on her bed, she couldn't stop thinking about it, about

Dorian and his words.

"Why do I do this...?"

"Why I always want to walk you home?"

"Or why I like to spend time with you,

talk with you, to know that you're okay.."

"Why is it that I never want to see you sad, and I

just want to make your sadness disappear?.."

"Because I like you Bird, I've always liked you."

Repeat, repeat & repeat.....

The next night she had a nightmare again,

reminding her of all the bad once again.

It was Kaius, whispering her ear:

"You can never be happy Birdie, you know it..."

You'll end up hurting him, just like you always do,

just like you've hurt them before,

you only cause them suffering, do not

delude yourself thinking anything else.

That's a mistake and he will be the one paying for it greatly.."

A few days later, Bird saw Dorian waiting for her outside the library

again

"Hi, what's up?" he said while

smiling and he really did have a nice smile,

but...Bird was going to shake that out of her mind. She had been thinking

it all over and she was afraid of her past, of Kaius still and she didn't want hurt anyone.

"Shall we go then?" Dorian said as Bird

kept looking at him.

Yes, she had asked him to meet her, to walk her home, she had a reason, she had to stop whatever it was..So that no one would get hurt..

A FEW YEARS AGO:

There was a gig at club "BangBang".

"Axl" was playing there, he was actually Dorian's childhood friend.

"Dor, I wasn't sure you would be coming here tonight.." Axel

said

D="I wouldn't miss it for the world, I mean

free entrance and all.."

A="Hahaha of course, so how's life? I guess it's

been a few years right?"

D="Yes, life's good, the same.."

A="You're studying or what are you doing currently?"

D="Yes, currently at college.."

A="Oh, what's next then..?

D="I'm still thinking about joining the military.."

A="Military? Well you're a smart guy, you would do well there I guess,

what about girls?.:"

D="Girls?"

A="Yeah, are you dating anyone?"

D="mm,not really.."

A="Why not? I've never seen you with anyone... Is everything alright with you...."

"Well well, how about you stop harassing him with questions

Axel.." Yaz said when she approached them

Y="You do know that Dor has never been into girls really.."

"uhmm,, Yaz...What are you saying..?" Dorian felt that she was making him something he was really not.

But he couldn't think about that for long because

he saw Bird and

she captured his attention.

"Oh, yaz, it's been awhile..You look great.." Axel said

"I know.Funny to see you here." Yaz answered

"You have a smoke?" Yaz asked

A="Of course."

"We'll be back in a a second.." Yaz said when she and Axel

went outside

and Bird & Dorian were left there for awhile, just the two of them,

and for a moment Dorian wondered what to say.

How to approach her...

D="So you know my sister?"

Bird didn't say anything at first, as she turned around to look at Dorian.

D="My sister, Yaz..You know her?"

B="Umm,, yes, I mean..A little..I didn't know she had a brother.."

D="Well, I'm Dorian and you?"

B= "Bird.."

"Bird? Well that's a beautiful name,

it's nice to meet you, Bird."

Dorian said with a smile

& even though they had only met,

ever since he had liked her.

Even though back then, it was only superficial.
